My IT consulting career was from 1989 to 2002 with PA Consulting Group and latterly with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where I was the Partner leading the IT Practice in London. In this capacity I worked with senior teams of the world’s largest and leading businesses on issues of direction and performance.
Examples of projects include:
- Leading the IT integration in major mergers such as Lloyds and TSB, Glaxo and Wellcome, GlaxoWellcome and SmithKlineBeecham, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, Zeneca and BASF and others.
- Being a member of the core Retail Transformation Programme team in NatWest which during the 1990s fundamentally reorganised the bank and reduced the cost/income ratio dramatically.
- Leading the IT team which built the first on-line business of Homebase.
- Reengineering the exchange traded derivatives operations of Swiss Banking Corporation in Zurich, London and Chicago to eliminate transaction errors and reduce processing time and cost.
This experience plays into my business coaching work through providing a thorough personal grounding in the nature and demands placed on senior managers when conceiving, mobilising and executing business initiatives of this magnitude.
