I abide by the BACP ethical framework.
An ethical dilemma that arises from time to time is when I have worked with a senior manager in a business and am asked to consider working with another person in the same business. For me to enter into such an arrangement I need to be assured that the degree of business separation is sufficient for there to be no conflict. For example, I would not work with a Chief Executive and then take on a business coaching commission to work with one of his direct reports, nor could I work with two members of the same executive team.
My standard practice when starting to work with any new company is to explain my ethical stance on this aspect of boundary management to the relevant commissioning body, typically the HR Director or Head of Leadership Development.
